Knight & Day

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz star in this sexy action comedy, in which a chance encounter thrusts a woman and a charming but lethal operative into a series of adventures across the globe. As if dodging assassins and uncovering world-changing secrets weren't enough, she must now figure out if he is a good guy, a traitor – or just plain crazy.

This movie was alot of fun. It just started right off and you find yourself oddly intrigued. Its got lots of great action, lots of situational laughs and Diaz and Cruise had great chemistry with each other. Its not that the movie is necessarily a great movie, but it is a lot of simple popcorn movie fun.

I would definitely recommend that people check this out. Its not a must see by any means but you could absolutely do a lot worse than this fun ride.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice

Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes "The Sorcerer's Apprentice."

This movie is exactly what you would expect it to be. It has some good moments. It has plenty of who cares moments. And of course it has a continuation of craptastic acting by Nicolas Cage. Disney basically just tried to capitalize on some cool visuals and making a movie based on the famous Mickey Mouse short from Fantasia. Ironically, the scene with the brooms that pays homage to that short is the most ill placed scene in the whole movie.

I wouldn't really recommend people checking this out. Its not outright horrible, but its not really worth your time either.

Going The Distance

Erin's (Drew Barrymore) wry wit and unfiltered frankness charm newly single Garrett (Justin Long) over beer, bar trivia and breakfast the next morning. Their chemistry sparks a full-fledged summer fling, but neither expects it to last once Erin heads home to San Francisco and Garrett stays behind for his job in New York City. But when six weeks of romping through the city inadvertently become meaningful, neither is sure they want it to end. And while Garrett's friends, Box (Jason Sudeikis) and Dan (Charlie Day), joke about his pre-flight calorie cutting and his full-time relationship with his cell phone, they don't like losing their best drinking buddy to yet another rocky romance. At the same time, Erin's high-strung, overprotective married sister, Corrine (Christina Applegate), wants to keep Erin from heading down an all-too-familiar road. But despite the opposite coasts, the nay-saying friends and family, and a few unexpected temptations, the couple just might have found something like love, and with the help of a lot of texting, sexting and late-night phone calls, they might actually go the distance.

I really enjoyed this movie. It was one of the more funny and believable date movies to come out in a while. The chemistry worked. The supporting characters (especially Charlie Day) were awesome with the comedic support. It wasn't too long.

I'd definitely recommend people checking this out. The language might be a little bit crude, but this was one of the more unexpected fun times I've had at the theater in a while.

Vampires Suck

Vampires Suck is a comedy about contemporary teen angst and romance movies. Becca, an anxious, non-vampire teen, is torn between two boys. Before she can choose, Becca must get around her controlling father, who embarrasses Becca by treating her like a child. Meanwhile, Becca’s friends contend with their own romantic issues – all of which collide at the prom.

This is another one of those lame-a$$ spoof movies. I beg of them to stop making 4-5 of these a year. Let some time go by and get better material and maybe there might be more than two laughs in the whole movie . . . . if there are even two. This one didn't have anything in the first 25 minutes to make WW and I care enough to waste any more time. The plug was happily pulled.

I wouldn't recommend that anyone bother with this juicy turd. Its a complete and total waste of time.

The Expendables

The Expendables is a hard-hitting action/thriller about a group of mercenaries hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator. Once the mission begins, the men realize things aren’t quite as they appear, finding themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal. With their mission thwarted and an innocent life in danger, the men struggle with an even tougher challenge – one that threatens to destroy this band of brothers.

This movie is exactly what you would expect it to be. Its straight up testosterone on the screen. Big guys. Big guns. Lots of explosions. Horrible dialogue. Weak a$$ story. Lots of fighting. I loved it. It was a total 80s action movie throwback. The scene with Stallone, Willis and Schwartzenneger is hysterical. The fact that they have Stone Cold Steve Austin and Randy Couture have a big fight one on one is a total shout out to the WWE/UFC fans. The best part of the movie is the chemistry between all of these action actors. You can tell that they probably had a LOT of fun making this movie and it shows throughout.

I would definitely recommend people who were interested in this movie checking it out. If you want action - this movie couldn't deliver more.

Eat Pray Love

Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) had everything a modern woman is supposed to dream of having - a husband, a house, a successful career - yet like so many others, she found herself lost, confused, and searching for what she really wanted in life. Newly divorced and at a crossroads, Gilbert steps out of her comfort zone, risking everything to change her life, embarking on a journey around the world that becomes a quest for self-discovery. In her travels, she discovers the true pleasure of nourishment by eating in Italy; the power of prayer in India, and, finally and unexpectedly, the inner peace and balance of true love in Bali. Based upon the bestselling memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert, "Eat Pray Love" proves that there really is more than one way to let yourself go and see the world.

This is easily one of the biggest snooze fests ever. I made it 45 minutes in and did not care one iota about what was going on. Julia Roberts did nothing but waa-waa about how she needed a change. Oh .......... And then she ate. She prayed. And she loved. And I still don't care.

I wouldn't recommend anyone bothering with the 2 hours plus nap. It is a total waste of time.

Flipped

When second-graders Bryce and Juli first meet, Juli knows it's love. But Bryce isn't so sure. Girl-phobic and easily embarrassed, young Bryce does everything he can to keep his outspoken wannabe girlfriend at arm's length... for the next six years, which isn't easy since they go to the same school and live across the street from each other. But if Juli finally looks away, will it be Bryce's turn to be dazzled? Flipped takes Bryce and Juli from grade school to junior high, through triumph and disaster, family drama and first love, as they make the discoveries that will define who they are - and who they are to each other.

This was an extremely cute movie. I have no idea with all the garbage that gets released that this didn't get a wider release. Its a movie about being young and in love. Its directed by Rob Reiner. It is super short . . . . . always a fan of cutting out all the blah blah blah. The back and forth naration between the two main characters was a great form of story telling especially when they covered the same events through the two perspectives.

I would absolutely recommend people checking this out. Its not a must see by any means but it is a very fun, enjoyable and endearing watch.

The Last Airbender

Air, Water, Earth, Fire. Four nations tied by destiny when the Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others. A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of this destruction. Caught between combat and courage, Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara (Nicola Peltz), a Waterbender, and her brother, Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), to restore balance to their war-torn world.

This movie was beyond disappointing. I never watched the cartoon so i didn't have anything to base it on. I'm not sure that would have mattered though since it was the acting as bad as from the Twilight movies that made it so painful. Add to that how this bottom of the barrel production was hyped as a summer blockbuster and the annoyance by it triples. This was some of the worst "special" effects and green screen shots since the Wolverine movie last summer.

I wouldn't recommend anyone bothering to check this out. I was so bored half way in that I stopped paying attention to the way over the top story line and just found myself getting mad that I was still watching the movie.

A Christmas Carol

Disney's A Christmas Carol captures the fantastical essence of the classic Dickens tale in groundbreaking 3-D. Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey) begins the Christmas holiday with his usual miserly contempt, barking at his faithful clerk (Gary Oldman) and his cheery nephew (Colin Firth). But when the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come take him on an eye-opening journey revealing truths Old Scrooge is reluctant to face, he must open his heart to undo years of ill will before it's too late.

I still am not sure how much I enjoyed this movie. I kind of liked it, but . . . . .

1 - Its way too early for them to be releasing a Christmas movie.

2 - How many different tellings of A Christmas Carol can be made?

3 - Was this a kids movie? Way too dark. Way too Old Englishy. I didn't understand half of the expressions. There's no way your kid is going to.

4 - As great as the action part of this kind of animation is, I just find the characters looking freakishly creepy.

5 - I don't remember the Ghost of Christmas Present being some laughing viking.

All that being said - I think that Jim Carrey was perfect for the part and the best parts of the movie were when they gave him to time to just be Scrooge without all the craziness going on with the action animation. I'm not sure how much I could really recommend this movie though. Its really not for kids and its way too early for Christmas movies. The enjoyment level really is nowhere near an automatic either.

The Kids Are All Right

The Kids Are All Right is the heartfelt comedy starring Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, and Mark Ruffalo. Two teenaged children (Mia Wasikowska and Josh Hutcherson) get the notion to seek out their biological father and introduce him into the family life that their two mothers (Bening and Moore) have built for them. Once the donor (Ruffalo) is found, the household will never be the same, as family ties are defined, re—defined, and re—re—defined.

This was a very well crafted character drama/comedy. All the performances were realistic and great. The relationships and the different personality traits were all incredibly well scripted and genuine even though it isn't the textbook family that has been force fed to us as "normal". The only knock that I would make against this movie is that its one of those where the buzz reviews of it being the greatest thing may raise expectations too high. And for a "family comedy" this movie is chock full of sex, so be warned.

I would definitely recommend that those of you that are in to great/realistic peformances and a truly well crafted script about family dynamics. Outside of that, you should probably pass on this one. Its not really a mainstream movie.

Cats & Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore

In the age-old battle between cats and dogs, one crazed feline has taken things a paw too far. Kitty Galore, formerly an agent for cat spy organization MEOWS, has gone rogue and hatched a diabolical plan to not only bring her canine enemies to heel, but take down her former kitty comrades and make the world her scratching post. Faced with this unprecedented threat, cats and dogs will be forced to join forces for the first time in history in an unlikely alliance to save themselves - and their humans.

Oh my god! Not that i expected anything from this turd at all, but this was just all out torture on all of your senses. Its movies like this that make me so mad that millions and millions of dollars are spent, not to mention all the money that parents spend on it. Its also the type of movie that makes me hate my movie addiction the most.

I recommend this movie to nobody. Dont get me wrong. Kids will love it but its just downright painful for the adults. Run for your lives!

Lottery Ticket

Kevin Carson (Bow Wow), a young man living in the projects, wins $370 million in a nationwide lottery. When his opportunistic neighbors discover he has the winning ticket in his possession, Kevin must survive their greedy and sometimes even threatening actions over a three-day holiday weekend before he can claim his prize.

I made it exactly 34 minutes in to this movie before pulling the plug. Ironically, I slightly laughed for the first time just before turning it off, but the everything before that was so just kind of there that the one laugh wasn't enough for me to keep watching. This movie is really nothing more than a wannabee Friday but without Chris Tucker. Toss around the fact that Friday would have sucked without Chris Tucker and that would be why I pulled the plug on this bad boy.

I really wouldn't recommend anyone wasting their time with this wannabe retread. Its a total waste.

Grown Ups

Grown Ups, starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and David Spade, is a comedy about five friends and former teammates who reunite years later to honor the passing of their childhood basketball coach. With their wives (Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph) and kids in tow, they spend the Fourth of July holiday weekend together at the lake house where they celebrated their championship years earlier. Picking up where they left off, they discover why growing older doesn't mean growing up.

I was very surprised with how much I enjoyed this movie. I had pretty much grown extremely tired of Adam Sandler's movies and feel that they are pretty turdastic after about 30 minutes of decent laughs. This one lasted throughout the movie and there was great chemistry between the five main guys and their wives were able to hold their own too.

I would recommend people checking this out. Its not a must see by any means, but there are many worse things you could be stuck watching.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams...literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him.

Let me just state for the record before proceeding that this is one of the most ridiculous, silly, over the top movies I have ever seen. That being said, this movie was so ridiculous, silly and over the top that I ended up really enjoying it. Its NOT a good movie at all. I would never recommend this to anyone as a good movie. I liked it because of how not good it was. Michael Cera plays the same damn character that he has 10 times already. The story is ridiculous. The batman like fight words throughout were insane. The dialogue was totally straight from friends sitting around bs-ing. Yet, all of that mushed together and thrown on the big screen was so bad that I liked it.

Again, I wouldn't blatantly recommend that anyone watch this. Its a bad movie. But if you are like me and can derive joy from something so bad that it ends up being good - you should go check this out.

Ramona & Beezus

The adventures of young Ramona Quimby (newcomer Joey King) and her big sister Beezus (Selena Gomez) come to life in this all new film based on the best-selling books by Beverly Cleary. Ramona's vivid imagination, boundless energy, and accident-prone antics keep everyone she meets on their toes. But her irrepressible sense of fun, adventure and mischief come in handy when she puts her mind to helping save her family’s home.

This was a very cute family movie. The kid was very cute. All of the relationships that she had and how everyone played off of each other were very cute. The story and how it all played out was very cute. Not sure if I'm getting my point across here or not. This movie is the dictionary definition of cute.

I would definitely recommend this movie to all families and anyone with children. Stinka absolutely loved the movie and I was able to enjoy its cuteness as well.

Charlie St. Cloud

Accomplished sailor Charlie St. Cloud (Efron) has the adoration of mother Claire and little brother Sam, as well as a college scholarship that will lead him far from his sleepy Pacific Northwest hometown. But his bright future is cut short when a tragedy strikes and takes his dreams with it. After his high-school classmate Tess (Amanda Crew) returns home unexpectedly, Charlie grows torn between honoring a promise he made four years earlier and moving forward with newfound love. And as he finds the courage to let go of the past for good, Charlie discovers the soul most worth saving is his own.

This might be one of the most forced heart string movies I have ever seen. The problem is that no effort is made to get you attached to any characters so you end up not really caring when they end up dead. I know that sounds cold, but I cant remember a time when I cared less about movie characters dying.

I wouldnt recommend anyone wasting their time with this. Its blatantly forced heart string pulling and is a total waste of time.

Toy Story 3

As Andy prepares to depart for college, Buzz, Woody and the rest of his loyal toys are troubled about their uncertain future. Toy Story 3 is a comical new adventure that lands the toys in a room full of untamed tots who can't wait to get their sticky little fingers on these "new" toys. It's pandemonium as they try to stay together, ensuring "no toy gets left behind."

This is the 11th time that I will be saying this. PIXAR DOESN'T DO BAD MOVIES. Their movies have always been locks to land on my top ten lists. I actually ranked them in order last year and the "last" place movie is still amazing. I was afraid that this would be their first "disappointing" movie. Its the 3rd one. This usually leads to less emphasis on story telling. However, I was so beyond wrong. I actually liked this one more than the 3rd one. The story was awesome with so many different layers based on the characters. I also find it amazing how they are able to factor in so many characters, juggle them pretty equally and make you care for all of them. The ending of this movie will make most people get choked up or cry. Its very touching and really makes you miss being a kid.

I couldn't possibly recommend this movie any more if I tried. Its great fun for all ages and will easily be a lock for my top ten movies at the end of the year.

Centurion

AD 117. The Roman Empire stretches from Egypt to Spain, and East as far as the Black Sea. But in northern Britain, the relentless onslaught of conquest has ground to a halt in face of the guerrilla tactics of an elusive enemy: the savage and terrifying tribes known as the Picts. Quintus, sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus' legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon. But when the legion is ambushed on unfamiliar ground, and Virilus taken captive, Quintus faces a desperate struggle to keep his small platoon alive behind enemy lines, evading remorseless Pict pursuers over harsh terrain, as the band of soldiers race to rescue their General, and to reach the safety of the Roman frontier.

This movie is opening up extremely limited. Thats because it pretty much is a giant turd. The preview made it seem like it might be somewhat watchable for a Roman empire period piece and what not. It isn't. Its easily a direct to DVD fluff piece. Its the same old story and the battles are just about showing as much gore as possible. I couldn't even force myself to finish the movie because I was bored out of my mind.

I wouldn't recommend that anyone bother wasting their time on this. Its probably not going to be playing at too many theaters near you anyway. This is a good thing.
