Miracle At St. Anna

This film chronicles the story of four African-American soldiers who are members of the U.S. Army as part of the all-black 92nd Buffalo Soldier Division stationed in Tuscany, Italy, during World War II. They experience the tragedy and triumph of the war as they find themselves trapped behind enemy lines and separated from their unit after one of them risks his life to save an Italian boy.

This was a great movie. I'm actually quite annoyed at myself for not seeing this in theaters. I had passed on it at the time because of the 2 hour 40 minute running time and 1/2 of the movie being in subtitles (smallest subtitles ever by the way!!!). However, neither of those factors takes away from this very well done movie. The performances were great all around. You find yourself caring very much about all the characters. The story telling is done surprisingly well considering that there are pretty much three different story lines interweaving. This would normally be movie destroying but is told superbly well by Spike Lee and the bouncing between past and present as well as between the black soldiers, the AWOL german and the Italian partisans keeps you glued to the screen for the full two hours and 40 minutes.

I very strongly recommend that everyone check this movie out. I was beyond surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
